Privacy Policy
Up to version 1.4.1, RoomSync sends nothing to its developer. From version 1.5 it only sends data when you write to the developer from the app and, if you have written before, it asks iCloud for your messages and their replies (see "Messages to the developer"). If you have no iCloud account (or its access is restricted) and your iPhone has an email account, writing opens an email inside the app that you send yourself from your account. Nothing else leaves your device for the developer or for third parties.
- Home Assistant. The address and access token are stored encrypted in your device's Keychain and are only used to connect to your own Home Assistant server, on your network or at the address you provide. If you sign in from the app, the temporary session is revoked as soon as the long-lived token is created.
- Apple Home. The app reads and changes rooms and accessories of your HomeKit home only to do what you ask (sync, move, clean up, restore). That data never leaves the device, except the Diagnostics inventory if you attach it to a message (see "Messages to the developer").
- Backups and activity log. Stored only on your device. If you share a backup, you send it, to whoever you choose.
- Messages to the developer (from version 1.5). You can write from Settings ("Write to the developer"), from "Something went wrong? Write to us" after an operation with failures, and from "Send report", under errors. In those last two the message comes pre-filled with the screen and the error the app showed (without the token, the Home Assistant address or the HTTP headers), and you can change it before sending. The app sends your message, its kind (help, idea or bug), the app version, the iOS version and iPhone model, your language and region, and a conversation identifier and a status (new or answered) to order the replies. Only if you check them, it also sends the Diagnostics inventory and an image from your photo library (usually a screenshot). The inventory contains the names, rooms, serial numbers, manufacturers and models of your Home accessories, each one's bridge and whether it is unresponsive or blocked, your Home groups with their names and members, bridge health and possible duplicates, the date and the app version. Before sending you see the text and what you attach. The Home Assistant token, address and HTTP headers are never sent. It is stored in RoomSync's iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit), tied to the identifier iCloud assigns to your account for this app, not to your name or your email, and only you and the developer can read it, to answer you and fix the app. It is not shared with anyone. It is kept until you delete it from "My messages" (the "Delete" button also deletes it from iCloud), or until you ask for it to be deleted by writing to the support address. If you have already sent a message, each time you open the app or it returns to the foreground (at most every two minutes), when the iCloud account changes, and when you open "My messages", the app asks iCloud for your account identifier, the messages it has sent and their replies, and may register in that database a subscription tied to that identifier so iCloud can notify you of replies. Someone who has never written makes none of these calls. The app sends nothing else. If you allow notifications, iCloud notifies you when the developer replies.
- Messages without iCloud (from version 1.5). Sending a message through iCloud requires an iCloud account signed in on the device. Without one, or if its access is restricted (for example, on a managed iPhone or with Screen Time limits), and your iPhone has an email account, the app opens an email inside the app addressed to the support address, with your message and the app version, system and model, language and region (no inventory or image): you see all of it and you send it yourself from your account, so the developer receives your email address and the content of the message, and uses them only to reply to you. They are kept in the support mailbox only as long as needed to reply to you, and you can ask for them to be deleted by writing to the support address. If there is no email account, the app sends nothing: it shows you the text so you can copy it.
- No analytics, no ads. The app includes no third-party SDKs. Apart from the messages you send and what it asks iCloud about them (see "Messages to the developer"), it never contacts the developer's servers.
- Purchases. The one-time purchase is handled by Apple (StoreKit). The developer receives no payment data.
- Local network. The app discovers Home Assistant on your network with Bonjour; that permission is used for nothing else.
If this policy changes, the date above will be updated and the new app version will reflect it.
